Former Nepal skipper Sandeep Lamichhane found guilty of sexual assault charges

Former Nepal skipper leg-spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane has been found guilty of sexual assault charges by the Kathamandu court on Friday as the punishment is set to be pronounced soon.

Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is in trouble with the law yet again. The 23-year-old has been found guilty of the Sexual Assault charges that were levied against him. The Nepal High Court has found the former national skipper guilty of the sexual assault charges. 

On Friday there was massive shock across Nepal as the former skipper was convicted for rape. This is bad news for Sandeep Lamichhane as this could spell the end of his Cricketing career. 

Sandeep Lamichhane became the first-ever player from Nepal to play in the IPL. Making his debut at 18 years old, Sandeep played for the Delhi Capitals with little success. The final sentencing is yet to be determined and it could soon be pronounced in the coming days. 

Dark Days for Nepal Cricket –

Shishir Raj Dhakal on Friday found Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane guilty of rape. The matter happened when a 17-year-old girl accused the cricketer of sexually assaulting her. Following this, the cricketer was sent to jail and had recently come out on bail.

Mr Dhakal and the Kathmandu court have found the 23-year-old cricketer guilty of charges. As per reports, the final pronouncing of the punishment could happen sooner and that will be done during the next scheduled hearing.

Sandeep Lamichhane was sent to jail on the 4th of November 2022, with the cricketer appealing the decision. The case had been filed against the cricketer on the 21st of August, 2022 by the Kathmandu District Attorney Office.

The unnamed Minor girl later filed her case on the 6th of September, 2022. The cricketer was arrested by the police when he came back home after playing in the Caribbean Premier League that year.

Once the case came up for hearing the District Attorney wanted Sandeep Lamichhane to pay the minor for apparent torture both physically and mentally. The 23-year-old was out on bail with a bond valued at INR 2 Million.

Sandeep Lamichhane is currently playing in the National T20 Championships in Nepal for the PARSA Club. He was playing against Army Club on Friday the day the news hit the media and picked 3/13 with the ball. The 23-year-old has played 51 ODI games picking 112 wickets and 52 T20I games picking 98 wickets.
