Former South Africa batter wants to return to T20I

Faf du Plessis has been one of the finest white–ball cricketers of this generation. The former South Africa skipper has retired from the longest format of the game. But he continues to play in franchise cricket and has been out of the white-ball team in 2020. Currently, he is the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and under him, the team has performed well. The opener won the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) twice in 2018 and 2021.

According to the reports, the South African batter has shown interest in returning to the T20I side for the T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled in the West Indies and the USA. The batter has scored 730 runs in 14 innings for the Bangalore-based franchise in the previous edition. He has scored 1198 runs across two seasons for RCB.

The batter is playing in the T10 League and he will be travelling to India for the toughest T20 league in the world sooner. Du Plessis led South Africa in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups. South Africa management has to take a call as his age is also a factor but he has kept him fit than many other international cricketers and easily feature in the shortest format of the game.

I believe that I can return to international cricket: Faf du Plessis

The 39-year-old said, "I believe that I can return to international cricket. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach."

"I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world."
