Glenn Maxwell picks all-time ODI XI with a twist

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed his all-time ODI XI comprising India, Australia and England players. Interestingly, Maxwell picked David Warner instead of Sachin Tendulkar initially. However, he had to eventually change it to Sachin for Warner.

Starting off his XI, Maxwell went ahead with Rohit Sharma and David Warner as right-left combination for his opening pair. Later, he slotted Virat Kohli at No.3 with Ricky Ponting coming in at No.4. 

Michael Bevan, MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah, Glenn McGrath, and Brett Lee are the other players part of the XI.

“Rohit Sharma has pretty good stats. he’s got three double hundreds. 32 hundreds, averages 48, struck at 92 (strike rate). And I’m going to go Davey (David Warner) – average 45, strike-rate 97, 22 hundreds. Two pretty clear openers,” Maxwell told Fox Cricket in a video.

“Could’ve gone with Sachin, but I’m going to go right-left (combination) to start,” he added.

However, FoxCricket had set a rule of having only five Australian players in the all-time ODI XI. With Maxwell having already named Ricky Ponting, Michael Bevan, Shane Watson, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee in the XI, Maxwell had to drop Warner and bring in Sachin as an opener. 

“I might have to get rid of Davey. Davey goes, Sachin’s in. To be fair, Sachin’s got three times the runs,” Maxwell concluded. 

Tendulkar has accumulated 18,426 ODI runs, against Warner’s 6,932 runs. Tendulkar is also the second-highest century-maker in ODIs, having scored 49 tons.
