After suffering a groin injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6, Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand.
The New Zealand all-rounder was purchased by GT during the previous year's super auction for a base price of Rs 2 crore, but he had not played a single game for the team in the 2025 Indian Premier League before an injury ended his participation.
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford, South Africa fast bowler Gerald Coetzee, and Afghanistan bowling all-rounders Rashid Khan and Karim Janat are among GT's current choices for playing abroad.
Glenn Phillips’s injury happened during the GT v SRH match in IPL 2025
Glenn Phillips was brought onto the field as a substitute fielder. He had not played a single match for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 and had been warming the bench instead. The injury occurred during the final over of the SRH's innings' powerplay.
Ishan Kishan pushed a soft shot, and Glenn Phillips, covering the point area on the field while fielding as a substitute, rushed after it. He appeared to have stretched his groin when tossing the ball back, as he fell to the ground instantly.
The GT physio rushed in as soon as he appeared to be in a lot of discomfort. A teammate assisted Phillips in walking out of the ground following a significant break.
"Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery,” the Gujarat Titans statement read, as per Cricbuzz.
Phillips is the second member of the Titans' overseas roster to be sidelined. There is currently no word on when Kagiso Rabada will return to the team after returning to South Africa to handle a personal situation.
