India U19 beat Bangladesh U19 in Under-19 World Cup 2024

India U19 and Bangladesh U19 locked horns in their campaign opener of the ongoing Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa. The match was played at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. Bangladesh U19 won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, India U19 posted a total of 251 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Opener Adarsh Singh and skipper Uday Saharan scored the important half-centuries, scoring 76 and 64 runs, respectively. Apart from these two, the lower middle-order batters of the team also made crucial 20+ contributions each to help India set a challenging target for Bangladesh U19.

Speaking of Bangladesh’s bowling, the teenage pacer Maruf Mridha bowled an impressed with his amazing bowling as he scalped 5 wickets just at the cost of 43 runs in 8 overs, including one maiden over. Other than him, Md Rizwan and skipper Rabby also bagged one wicket each for their side.

Bangladesh batters choke against Indian bowling

While chasing the target, Bangladesh had a shaky start after losing 4 wickets just at the score of 50 runs in 14.4 overs. However, skipper Rabby, alongside number four batter Ariful Islam, stitched a crucial partnership of 77 runs but just after Ariful’s dismissal, Bangladesh started losing wickets in quick intervals.

Eventually, Indian bowlers led by the young spinner Saumy Pandey, bundled out the Bangladesh U19 just at the score of 167 runs in 45.5 overs. Pandey stunned everyone with his sensational bowling, scalping 4 wickets just at the cost of 24 runs in 9.5 overs with a brilliant economy rate of 2.44.

Besides Pandey, Raj Limbani, Arshin Kulkarni, and Priyanshu Moliya also scalped one wicket each for India in the second innings. Eventually, the boys in blue won the match by 84 runs to start their Under-19 World Cup 2024 campaign with an impressive win. Opener Adarsh Singh won the ‘Player of the Match award for his amazing 76-run knock.
