Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been handed with hefty fine yet again for maintaining a slow-over rate against the Gujarat Titans in the 56th match of the IPL 2025 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 6.
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra was also fined and given a demerit point for conduct "contrary to the spirit of the game" against the Mumbai Indians, that GT bagged a win by three wickets.
"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh," the IPL website said in an official statement.
While Hardik Pandya was fined INR 24 Lakh, the rest of the MI franchise, including the impact player and concussion sub, were fined either INR 6 Lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fee, whichever is lesser.
Meanwhile, GT head coach Nehra’s offence wasn’t clearly mentioned in the statement. However, it was witnessed that he was visibly angry over the Mumbai Indians’ players wasting time during the Titans’ chase. He was also seen having discussions with on-field umpires regarding the same.
"Ashish Nehra, Head Coach, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25 percent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct," the IPL statement read.
"He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 - which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game - and accepted the match referee's sanction," it added.
It’s important to note that for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee's decision is final and binding. MI will next take on the Punjab Kings in the 61st match of the season in Dharamsala, while Gujarat Titans will next lock horns with the Delhi Capitals in Delhi.
