Hashim Amla picks all-time Test XI; excludes Virat Kohli

In an exclusive interaction with the Beard Before Wicket Podcast, the former South African opening batter Hashim Amla has picked his all-time Test XI. Interestingly, his XI didn’t include the Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli.

Moving into the details of Amla’s XI, it includes four South Africans, two Indian players, four Australians, and a Sri Lankan. On that note, let’s delve into the details of Hashim Amla’s all-time Test XI.

Starting off, Amla went ahead with Graeme Smith and Matthew Hayden as openers. Later, he slotted Rahul Dravid ‘The Wall’ as No.3 batter. While Smith accumulated 9265 runs from 117 Tests at an average of 48.25, Hayden amassed 8625 runs from 103 Tests at an average of 50.73. 

On the other hand, Dravid racked up 13288 runs from 164 Tests at an average of 52.32 with 36 centuries and 63 half-centuries. Moving ahead, he placed Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis at No.4 and No.5, respectively. 

Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar comes in down the order at No. 6, with AB de Villiers taking the keeping duties. Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan will take over spin duties while Dale Steyn and Glenn McGrath will form the pace battery. 

While Ponting has 13378 runs to his name in 168 Tests at an average of 51.85, Kallis has 13289 runs and 292 wickets from 166 Tests. Tendulkar still leads the run-scoring tally with 15921 runs from 200 Tests at an average of 53.78. 

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers has 8765 runs from 114 Tests at an average of 50.66. While Muralitharan leads the wickets tally with 800 Test wickets, Warne has racked up 708 wickets.  McGrath has picked up 563 Test wickets, with Steyn pocketing 439 wickets from 93 Tests.
