The World Test Championship will begin its fourth edition (2025-27) in just three days, following South Africa's defeat of Australia in the WTC 2023–25 at Lord's Cricket Ground. The first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will begin at Galle on June 17.
The WTC 2025-27 cycle, comprising 71 matches over the next two years, will feature intense competition among the nine participating teams, as well as several high-profile changes.
In the absence of former captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two-time runners-up India will usher in a new era under Shubman Gill's leadership, beginning with the Anderson-Tendulkar at Headingley on June 20.
Here are the details of the new WTC 2025-27 cycle and how many Tests each team plays
Each team will play a total of six series, three at home and three away, of varied lengths in the upcoming tournament. The standings are based on PCT (percentage of points won), which accounts for the unequal number of games each team played over the two-year period.
Nine teams will compete, with the final two facing off in the summit match, which is scheduled for 2027. Despite being Test-playing countries and scheduled to participate in several Test matches between 2025 and 2027, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe will not be participating in the 2025–27 World Test Championship.
England will play the most number of matches (21) in the upcoming WTC cycle, followed by Australia (20) and India (18). India’s WTC 2025-27 cycle will have home series against West Indies, South Africa, and Australia, besides away tours to England, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand.
