Shubman Gill is a permanent fixture in the Indian team across the three international formats. One of the best examples of a young player justifying his talents, Shubman Gill first came to the fore thanks to his performance in the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup, where he was the highest Indian run-getter.
He then made his India debut in 2019, though as a backup, but with Shikhar Dhawan losing form and his place in the Indian team, Shubman Gill became the first-choice opener for India in all formats. He made his Test debut in Australia in 2020 and his T20I debut in 2023.
He was one of the youngest to score centuries in all three formats of the game and the youngest Indian. Thus far, he has played 32 Tests, scoring 1893 runs with 5 centuries and an average of 35.05. In 47 ODIs, he has 2328 runs with 6 centuries and 13 fifties, including the highest score of 208 and an average of 58.20.
In 21 T20Is, Gill has 578 runs with one century and a strike rate of 139.27.
Gill has also found success in IPL, first appearing for the Kolkata Knight Riders and then becoming the lynchpin of the Gujarat Titans franchise. His best IPL season came in 2023, when he smashed 890 runs in 17 games with 3 centuries and 4 fifties, with a best score of 129. His strike rate was 157.80 and averaged 59.33.
Coming to Shubman Gill’s payment, Shubman Gill is regarded as one of today's richest young players. Shubman Gill has been put in the Grade A category on the central contract list announced by the BCCI in February 2024, with an annual remuneration of INR 5 crore for the Indian squad.
The annual remuneration of players in Grade C is INR 1 crore, whereas players in Grade B earn INR 3 crore. The annual compensation for Grade A players is INR 5 crore, while Grade A Plus players receive INR 7 crore.
He would also receive Rs 15 lakhs for each Test, Rs 6 lakhs for each One Day International, and Rs 3 lakhs for each Twenty20 International in which he plays India. The BCCI declared that every player who participates in at least 70% of India's Test Matches this year will get Rs 45 lakhs each game, which may be a possibility for him.
Shubman Gill currently represents Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He was retained by GT before the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 16.50 crores, taking a pay cut for the team’s benefit.
