I am really concerned about Jasprit Bumrah: Ravi Shastri

Former Team India head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has shared his concerns for the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who scalped all three England wickets on the second day of the ongoing Leeds Test in the five-match Test series.

While Bumrah looked exceptional with the ball on Day 2, other Indian bowlers - Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Ravindra Jadeja failed to live up to the expectations against the strong English batting line-up.

While Thakur conceded runs at an economy of 7.7 in his short three-over spell, Krishna leaked runs at an economy of 5.6 in his 10-over spell, giving away 56 runs. Though Siraj looked fair enough, he couldn’t bowl any wicket-taking deliveries.

Discussing on the same lines, Shastri stated that there would be a lot of workload concerns on Bumrah if other Indian bowlers don’t step up in the upcoming days of the ongoing Test. Most importantly, Bumrah is expected to play only three Tests in the five-match series, which is another major concern for the Shubman Gill-led Team India.

"I’m really concerned about Bumrah and what his workload will be as the series progresses, because he is the one man who is expected to pick wickets every spell he bowls. I just hope someone at the other end puts their hands up," Shastri said on Sky Cricket.

On the other hand, Ben Duckett, who gave away his wicket to Bumrah after scoring 62 runs, hailed the Indian pacer as the best bowler in the world. He added that Bumrah is very hard to face in any conditions of the game.

“He is the best bowler in the world. He’s extremely hard to face, good in any conditions, and when he’s coming in down the hill with the lights on and it’s swinging both ways, it’s tough," Duckett said after play on Day 2.
