Former Indian skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli amused everyone with another masterclass performance and that too in India’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign opener against Australia. He played an all-important knock of 85 runs, alongside a historic and remarkable partnership of 165 runs for the second wicket with star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul.

Kohli and Rahul’s partnership helped India to win the match by 6 wickets after recovering from a miserable situation when they lost three wickets only on the score of 2 runs in 2 overs. It was Kohli’s 23rd half-century in the successful run chases for India.

"We know with him he's always hungry. He's a winner." - Ricky Ponting on Virat Kohli

Meanwhile, the former Australian skipper and one of the all-time batting greats, Ricky Ponting has come up with a big prediction on Virat Kohli. He backed Kohli to break or achieve some milestones in the further part of this ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

“I think he will. I think he'll definitely get two centuries, whether he gets three is another thing. There is every chance at the end of this World Cup he could be equal with, if not breaking Sachin’s record, which is remarkable within itself,” said Ricky Ponting in a review podcast on the social media channels of cricket’s governing body.

“If he gets that mindset, and we saw that he's in pretty good touch, and we know with him he's always hungry. He's a winner, he wants success for himself and for his team. Forty-nine one-day international hundreds are amazing. But he deserves that, he works hard. You watch him even in the field, game one, he just looks ultra fit and is up for the contest every ball whether it's in the field or with these batting hands. So, I'd never write him off,” he added later.

Now, Virat Kohli will be in action with Team India at his home ground in Delhi against Afghanistan. Both teams will play this match tomorrow Wednesday, October 11.
