Former South African and RCB batter AB de Villiers has opened up on Virat Kohli’s poor form in the just concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. He has advised the star Indian batter to “reset” his mind in order to avoid on-field battles.
Notably, Team India suffered a six-wicket loss and a 1-3 series defeat over Australia. With this defeat, India was eliminated from the WTC Final race. Unfortunately, Virat Kohli could rack up only 190 runs in nine innings in the five-match Test series.
"I think the thing is to reset your mind every time. Virat loves the fight, but when you're not in the form of your life, it's best to get rid of those things. As a batter, it is to reset every single and understand every ball is an event and just forget about the bowler," AB de Villiers said in a video he posted on 'X'.
“He needs to refocus after every single ball” - AB de Villiers
De Villiers later stated that Kohli sometimes gets too involved in the game. However, all that Indian batter needs is to refocus after every single ball.
"I think sometimes Virat forgets about that because of his fighting spirit and the nature of the man wanting to be involved and show the whole of India he is there to fight for them," De Villiers went on to add.
"The skill, experience, and greatness of the guy (Kohli) are not an issue. It's sometimes about the refocus after every single ball. Maybe sometimes he gets involved too much,” he stated.
Virat Kohli scored a century in the second innings of the series opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth. However, since then, he couldn’t create an impact, as his next-best score turned out to be 36 in the next four Tests.
Unfortunately, the just concluded five-match Test series could be Virat Kohli’s last Australia tour in the longest format of the game.
