Shreyas Iyer after India’s six-wicket win against Pakistan

India’s no.4 batter Shreyas Iyer has opened up on the team’s six-wicket win against Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai. Iyer stated that the team could’ve won a bit earlier, marking it a convincing victory had other batters shown some aggression with the willow.

Interestingly, Shreyas Iyer himself had a slow approach against Pakistan. Though he started off slowly, he had an attacking approach in the later stages of his knock. He went on to score 56 runs off 67 balls.

“I think we could have won a bit earlier. It would have been a convincing win,” Iyer said in the post-match press conference after securing a six-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Abrar Ahmed bowled brilliantly: Shreyas Iyer

Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed was exceptional with the ball for Pakistan during India's chase. Though Indian batters looked brilliant in the middle, they didn't attack the leggie. Abrar went on to scalp a wicket of Shubman Gill, conceding only 28 runs in 10 overs.

Iyer hailed the leg-spinner’s bowling skills, stating that it was very important for him to play out his spell, rotating the strike and not going for big shots.

“I think Abrar bowled brilliantly. It was important and crucial for me to play out that spell and rotate the strike at the same time. it took some time and then once my eyes were set, I thought that sweep and reverse sweep would have been a great option to put them on the back foot. And I think that worked pretty well for me,” Iyer added.

“It wasn't easy to take charge against Abrar. In that particular phase, it was important to take singles as much as possible, and take the team till the end. Once we reach 30 or 40 runs, it is easy to charge on from there,” Iyer concluded.
