Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has disclosed that he suggested Rohit Sharma wake up at 5 AM and run 20 km to keep himself fit. Notably, the veteran duo Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from the longest format of the game last month.
With both Rohit and Virat Kohli bidding adieu to the format, Shubman Gill has been announced as the new Test captain for the England tour, with Rishabh Pant set to act as his deputy. The five-match Test series is scheduled to take place from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
Furthermore, Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj, asserted that both Virat and Rohit can still play for the national team for another five years in the longest format of the game and witness the baton being passed to the youngsters instead of throwing it onto them.
"Virat and Rohit shouldn’t have retired from Tests. I told Rohit to get up at 5 AM and run for 20 km to keep himself fit. Virat and Rohit can still play for another 5 years in Test cricket. They should have played. They should be there to see that the baton is passed to the youngsters. The baton has not been passed; it has been thrown to Gill," Yograj told Inside Sport.
Moreover, Yograj stated that he requested his son Yuvraj to continue playing international cricket instead of retiring in 2019, promising to help him become the Indian team captain.
"Even when Yuvraj was retiring, I promised him that I would help him become India's captain and that we would throw everybody out, but he quit," Yograj added.
The five-match Test series is all set to take place from June and August. Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester will host these matches. This will be a part of the new WTC 2025-27 cycle.
