Indian captain Rohit Sharma has opened up after scoring a match-winning century in the second ODI against England. The Indian opener has revealed the reason behind his century and how he approached the innings.
Rohit scored a 90-ball century to bring up his 32nd ODI hundred, comprising of 12 fours and seven sixes. His knock helped Team India to bag a four-wicket win and clinch the ODI series 2-0 with one more game to go.
"It was good and I really enjoyed being out there, scoring some runs for the team. It was an important game with the series on the line but I broke it down to pieces about how I wanted to bat," Rohit Sharma told in the post-match presentation.
"(ODIs are) longer than T20s and shorter than Tests and I wanted to break it down. I wanted to bat as deep as possible and that was my focus,” he added.
"Looking at the pitch - when you play on black soil, it tends to skid on a bit and you have to show the full face of the bat initially. They bowled into the body and kept it on the stumps and that's where I prepared my plan and tried to access the gaps,” he stated.
Furthermore, Rohit Sharma also hailed his partners Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer for assisting him from the other end. While Gill scored a 52-ball 60-run knock, Iyer smashed 44 runs off 47 balls.
Before concluding, Rohit has given a message for the overall before making it to the ICC Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to take place from February 19 in Pakistan and Dubai.
"Nothing specific we want to work on but overall we want to keep getting better as a player and team. As long as guys are clear about what they are supposed to do, if they keep doing that not much to think about," Rohit concluded.
