ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Know Bangladesh’s squad, captain and vice-captain

Bangladesh will be hoping to make amends in ICC Champions Trophy for their poor show during the World Cup in India in 2023. A lot has changed for them since then with Shakib Al Hasan not being part of the team for off-field reasons while Najmul Hossain Shanto has been appointed the skipper of the team.

The squad comprises six batters, including three wicketkeeper-batters, six all-rounders and three bowlers. The team is a perfect blend of young and experienced players. Veterans Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah and Mustafizur Rahman will be key for the Tigers in the showpiece event even as the other youngsters will be eager to step up for the team.

Shanto’s form with the bat is under the scanner but the major concern for the team entirely will be that all the players are coming off stints in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Adapting to the 50-over format will be a challenge for them.

Towhid Hridoy will be crucial for Bangladesh among batters while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain will take care of spin-bowling stocks. Both players will also be important in the batting line-up for the Tigers and can win matches on their day.

Fast bowling stocks are better than ever for Bangladesh with Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana present in the squad. Rana’s pace of 150 kph will definitely trouble the opposition batters while Taskin is bowling at his best as displayed in the BPL recently.

Bangladesh have been grouped alongside India, Pakistan and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. They will begin their campaign against India in Dubai on February 20 while they will next travel to Rawalpindi for their remaining matches against New Zealand and Pakistan on February 24 and 27 respectively.
