ICC intervenes after BCCI reportedly rejects printing Pakistan name

Even before the Champions Trophy commenced, there has been a fresh controversy as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to print the name of tournament hosts Pakistan on their jersey. This has led to an intervention from the ICC where the organization has stressed the importance of all teams fulfilling the protocols of the tournament.

As per the protocols, all teams need to print the tournament logo on their jerseys which includes the name of the host nation Pakistan. The BCCI has refused to print Pakistan's name on their jersey due to reported political tensions between the two countries. While the ICC agreed on a hybrid model where India would play their games in the UAE, the ICC has urged the BCCI and other boards to follow the tournament protocols and print the name of the hosts on their jerseys.

"It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule," an ICC official said as per A-Sports.

PCB has fulfilled hosting obligations

The PCB has claimed that they haven't got any confirmation from the BCCI about their host name not being printed on their jersey. However, the PCB is dependent on the ICC to provide clear protocols and ensure that all teams comply with them and all teams are treated equally.

The PCB has also fulfilled all the obligations needed for hosting including getting official; clarences for Indian players and support staff.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma's participation in the opening ceremony in Karachi is in doubt. The captains of all the teams would make an appearance in the opening ceremony in Karachi but Rohit's travel plans are not yet certain.

“This includes Rohit or any other Indian team player or official or board official. This is in line with the usual protocols and since the opening match is on the 19th the opening ceremony can be expected either on the 16th or 17th," a source said earlier.
