In an interesting turn of events, Indian talismanic white-ball batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have disappeared from the newly updated ICC ODI rankings on Wednesday, August 20. However, the ICC was quick to give an update on the same.
In the previous week, when the ICC updated its ODI rankings, the Indian opening batter Rohit Sharma moved up to the second rank, while Kohli continued to be a part of the list at the fourth rank, as Shubman Gill continues to lead the charts with 756 rating points.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, an ICC spokesperson admitted the mistake. “There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified,” the official said.
It’s important to note that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have announced their retirements from the T20I format and the longest format of the game. However, they have decided to continue to be a part of the ODI format.
The newly updated rankings by the ICC saw Pakistan batter Babar Azam moving to No.3, while Rohit Sharma, who was at No.2, was removed from the list. Interestingly, Kohli and Rohit were the last part of the Indian ODI set-up in the successful ICC ODI Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
As per the glitch by the ICC, which was released on August 20, only two Indian batters were part of the newly released rankings - Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer - inside the top 10.
