Iceland Cricket set to host Champions Trophy

The Champions Trophy will be held after the wait of 8 long years, in 2025. It is scheduled to take place in Pakistan, with the top eight teams of the recent ODI World Cup qualifying for the major event. As per the various reports, Pakistan might lose its hosting rights due to India's decision not to travel. There were speculations that the tournament might be shifted to Dubai in order for India to participate.

India and Pakistan are yet to play a bilateral series since 2012-13, due to political tensions and other problems between the two nations. Amid the rumours, Iceland Cricket wrote a letter that was filled with jokes about their challenging weather conditions and lack of standard cricket grounds in an attempt to host the competition.

The nation also mocked the former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam who resigned from his captaincy after the Men in Green failed to qualify for the knockouts of the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. The eight nations that have qualified for the CT are India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan (host), and South Africa.

We have today issued our bid to host the Champions Trophy of 2025: Iceland Cricket

Iceland Cricket said, "We are not people who hold back. We have today issued our bid to host the Champions Trophy of 2025, and we look forward to hearing what Greg Barclay of the Cricket Governing Body has to say about it." Responding to a post, which read "What is something that still hasn't gone back to normal after the pandemic?", Iceland Cricket replied, saying: "The batting average of Babar Azam."

The 30-year-old batter's captaincy came under question when he failed to perform as expected in the mega competition. In nine matches, he scored 320 runs while averaging less than 40. Several former players and experts chastised him and his lack of leadership skills throughout the World Cup. The board of directors has named their new T20I and Test captain. Shan Masood has been selected as Test captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi has been named T20I captain.
