Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali is surprised by the Indian dashing opener Abhishek Sharma’s three consecutive ducks in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, which is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit backed the left-handed opener to come out on a stronger note in the Super 8 round. India will next take on South Africa in their first Super 8 clash on Sunday, February 22.

“The breaking news for me is that Abhishek scored the third zero. He has made a record of 0-0-0, a string of ducks equalling the likes of Saeed Anwar and Atta-ur-Rehman. He is a match-changer. I had a lot of expectations from Abhishek, and I think he is simply waiting for the Super 8 matches,” Basit said on his YouTube channel ‘TheBasitAliShow’.

Furthermore, Basit Ali also reacted to former Pakistan pacer’s comments on Abhishek Sharma being a slogger without a good batting technique. The former batter stated that if Abhishek is a slogger, Pakistan should get one such slogger in their team as well.

”If he is a slogger, then give us one like him, ek humey bhi de do. It is good that we get such players,” he added.

Furthermore, Basit also took a dig at the Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson, who hasn’t taken good enough decisions right from the toss to the bowling choices in the middle overs against India as Pakistan suffered a 61-run defeat.

“I don’t understand why Abrar Ahmed was not played. I don’t understand whether this is Pakistan’s team or Mike Hesson’s team. You make the team by looking at the opposing team, which unfortunately Mike Hesson is not doing,” he concluded.

Pakistan will next lock horns with New Zealand in their Super 8 clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, February 21.
