Cricket fans erupted in cheers as the India Masters, captained by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, clinched victory at the inaugural International Masters League (IML) 2025. In a nail-biting final, they defeated the West Indies Masters, bringing back memories of cricket's golden era.
The India Masters not only secured the championship trophy but also took home a staggering INR 1 crore in prize money. Brian Lara's West Indies Masters, though putting up a strong fight, had to settle for the runner-up position and a respectable INR 50 lakh.
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur was packed with approximately 50,000 enthusiastic fans who witnessed an enthralling contest. The India Masters displayed exceptional teamwork, restricting the West Indies Masters to a total of 148 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The chase was set up beautifully by an opening partnership of 67 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayudu.
Rayudu Shines Bright
Ambati Rayudu played a match-winning innings, scoring 74 runs and earning the Player of the Match award, along with INR 50,000. Rayudu also grabbed the Masterstroke of the Match and Most Sixes awards, adding another INR 50,000 to his winnings.
Shahbaz Nadeem was recognized as the Gamechanger and Most Economical Bowler for his impactful performance with the ball.
Beyond the final match, several players were recognized for their outstanding contributions throughout the season. Kumar Sangakkara received INR 500,000 for hitting the most fours (38), while Shane Watson also took home INR 500,000 for smashing the most sixes (25).
Sachin Tendulkar, at 51 years old, showed glimpses of his vintage form, entertaining the crowd with a few boundaries and a six. Although his stay at the crease was brief, it set the tone for the successful run chase.
Ultimately, the India Masters showcased their batting prowess, securing a six-wicket victory and etching their name in IML history as the first-ever champions.
Earlier, the India Masters had finished in second place after winning four out of their five games. They defeated Australia Masters in the first semi-final by 94 runs. The West Indies Masters were in fourth position and won three out of five matches. They won the second semi-final against Sri Lanka Masters by six runs.
