The BCCI has announced the India A team that will play Australia A in two four-day matches. The series will begin on September 16, 2025, while the second match will commence on September 23, 2025. Both games are scheduled to take place in Lucknow.
Dhruv Jurel was named vice-captain, while Shreyas Iyer was appointed captain. The squad also features players like Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan, and Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Today, we’ll look at five Indian players to watch out for in this series.
Here are five Indian players to watch out for in the multi-day India A vs Australia A series:
1. Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has made an impactful comeback in the Indian ODI team after the 2024 setback. He played a key role in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph and, despite missing the Asia Cup 2025, he seems to be back on the BCCI’s radar for a Test return, having been named captain of the India A team.
He has played 14 Tests, scoring 811 runs with one century and five fifties at an average of 36.86. After being sidelined for a year due to a back injury and BCCI’s disciplinary action, Iyer has performed well in ODIs for India and in the IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings. Now fully fit, he is being considered for a Test comeback, as the selectors seek a steady middle-order batter.
2. Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel has been appointed as vice-captain and wicketkeeper of the India A team, a significant promotion for the Uttar Pradesh cricketer. Jurel has already played five Tests for India, impressing with both his batting and wicketkeeping. He has strong first-class numbers, scoring 1515 runs in 25 matches with one century and 12 fifties.
With Rishabh Pant currently leading the race for the Test wicketkeeper’s slot, Jurel will aim to deliver big performances not only with the gloves but also with the bat, to strengthen his case for a long-term place in the Indian XI.
3. Harsh Dubey
Twenty-three-year-old Harsh Dubey has been steadily making a name for himself in Indian domestic cricket. The left-arm spinner has taken 108 wickets in 21 first-class matches, with a best of 6/36. He has also claimed 21 wickets in List-A cricket and 14 in T20s. Dubey featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, where he picked up five wickets in three games.
Known as a classical left-arm spinner, Dubey relies on loop and turn rather than variations in red-ball cricket. He has already taken 10 wickets in two matches in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025. Handy with the bat as well, he has scored eight first-class fifties, with a highest score of 76.
4. Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed has made an impressive return to Indian cricket after a long injury layoff. He picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 and performed well in both domestic and county cricket. Overall, Khaleel has 64 wickets in 24 first-class matches.
Internationally, he has represented India in 11 ODIs and 18 T20Is since making his debut in 2018, and was part of the Asia Cup-winning squad that year in the UAE. With India on the lookout for a reliable left-arm pacer in Test cricket to add variety to their pace attack, Khaleel will aim to make a strong impression in the Australia A series.
5. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy has been out of action since sustaining a knee injury on the England tour, but he now returns fully fit. So far, he has played seven Tests and four T20Is for India, scoring 343 and 90 runs respectively, and taking 11 wickets across formats.
Seen as a future pace-bowling all-rounder for the Indian Test team, Nitish has shown grit with the bat and steady improvement with the ball. With India set to play four home Tests, he will be eager to impress in the Australia A series and secure a place in the squad for those matches.
