With significant bilateral series and international competitions crammed into an unrelenting schedule, the Indian men's cricket squad is in for a tough and demanding 2026. Following a year of contrasts in 2025, the emphasis is now on maintaining momentum and making up for previous mistakes.
India's home series loss to South Africa in 2025 was a major setback in Test cricket, but they excelled in white-ball formats. The team's strength and depth in limited-overs cricket were further demonstrated by the Champions Trophy victory and their supremacy in T20 internationals.
The Indian cricket squad will have a significant year in 2026. India has the chance to become the first team to successfully defend their World T20 championship in the forthcoming year, and there is no better venue to accomplish it than at home, a possibility that rarely presents itself to any side.
India's cricket calendar will be dominated by the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 from March to May; no international matches are planned during this time. India is anticipated to reassemble in June for a brief assignment against Afghanistan that consists of one Test match and three ODIs after the IPL window. Dates have not yet been officially confirmed.
Considering that the ODI World Cup will also take place in 2027, India plays a lot of white-ball cricket. As part of their ICC World Test Championship 2025–2027 cycle, the Asian powerhouses are also slated to play at least four red-ball matches, two each against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
On the other hand, the Women's Premier League (WPL) will now take place from January to February rather than February to March as it did the previous year. The Indian women's cricket team's all-format trip of Australia will come after the WPL, and then attention will turn to the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales in June and July.
India and England will create history by playing in the first-ever women's Test match at the storied Lord's Cricket Ground after the T20 World Cup.
At the Asian Games 2026, which will take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, the Indian men's and women's teams will also try to defend their gold medals. This year, the Indian men's and women's cricket teams will play in a number of bilateral series in all three forms, both at home and away.
The following is the Indian cricket team's 2026 schedule.
