Former New Zealand batting star, Martin Guptill was undoubtedly one of the best cricketers in limited-overs cricket. Currently, he is in action for Urbanisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Legends League Cricket 2023, in India. Notably, Guptill is also famous for the iconic run-out of MS Dhoni that he inflicted during the thrilling first semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2019.

Recently, the former Kiwi star came up with a big revelation about the things he faced in the aftermath of that infamous ‘run-out’ and what he still goes through. Guptill also opened up about what was he actually thinking after that ‘run-out’.

“It's one of those things that happened so quickly at the moment. All I remember was I saw the ball go up and then I thought, oh no, it's coming sort of more towards me. So, I put the skates on to get on with that run. I knew there was no chance of a throw at the stumps, but I just tried to have a shot and only had one and a half stumps to aim at and I just got lucky. The stars aligned, and it was a perfect throw,” said Guptill to Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the Legends Cricket 2023.

“In other words, the whole of India doesn't like me. I get plenty of hate emails from there,” he added later.

Furthermore, the 37-year-old also cleared the air about his appearance in international cricket and subsequent possibilities of him in New Zealand cricket.

“No, I'm not an active international cricketer. I haven't finished cricket in New Zealand yet. But yes, I'm retired,” Guptill.

“For me, it was always going to retire after the 23 World Cup and then look to play a few leagues around the world and see the way things transpired back home,” he concluded.
