Former Indian pacer and analyst Varun Aaron has opened up on the most worrying aspect of the Indian team’s ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. While India created an impact with the bat and the ball in the group stage, they had mixed results in terms of their fielding.

Delving into the statistical details, Indian fielders have put down a total of nine catches across four group stage games, the second-most by any team in the ongoing showpiece event, behind Ireland, which dropped 10 catches.

Speaking exclusively on ESPNCricinfo, the former speedster stated that the Indian team is by far the worst catching side in the last 12 to 18 months, revealing that the team’s catching efficiency is less than 70.

"Massive problem. India is by far the worst catching team in the last 12 months or maybe 18 months. Their catching percentage is below 70. Every match they drop at least 2-3 catches. I just hope that they don't drop important catches come the Super 8 and the semifinals," Aaron said on ESPNCricinfo.

Delving into the details of the game between India and the Netherlands, Zach Lion-Cachet got two survivals. While the first one was after a miscommunication between captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh, which led to a collision and a dropped catch, the second was when Tilak Verma spilled another chance in the final over.

Shifting our focus to the details of the game, India batted first and posted a dominating total of 193/6 in 20 overs, courtesy of Shivam Dube's 66-run knock off 31 balls with four fours and six sixes. In response, the Netherlands scored 176/7 in 20 overs, losing the game by 17 runs. Varun Chakravarthy was the top bowler with a three-wicket haul in his three-over spell.
