India defeated Pakistan in the recent ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tournament in Dubai. This was a huge win for the Indian team, as it eliminated the hosts from the tournament in only their second game.
Pakistan has historically won more ODIs against India, although their record in ICC events is terrible. Pakistan has won only four of the 21 matches played between the two nations in ICC competitions (ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, and T20 World Cup), with three of the victories coming in the Champions Trophy.
However, there is no denying that both teams are ODI powerhouses, with Pakistan winning the ODI World Cup once in 1992 and India winning twice in 1983 and 2011. With that in mind, today we take a look at the India-Pakistan combined XI in the ODI format.
Check out the India-Pakistan combined XI in ODIs:
Opening the innings for the combined ODI XIs will be India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar. Tendulkar ruled the roost in ODIs from the 1990s till his retirement in 2013. He is the highest run-getter in ODIs with 18426 runs in 463 matches with 49 centuries and a best of 200*.
Anwar, meanwhile, was the kingpin of Pakistan batting at the top, scoring 8824 runs in 247 ODIs with 20 centuries and the highest score of 194, which came against India in 1997. Incidentally, it was Sachin Tendulkar who broke Anwar’s record for the highest individual ODI score when he made 200* against South Africa.
At no. 3 will be Virat Kohli, another ODI all-time great, who has more than 14,000 ODI runs with 51 centuries to his name and a best of 183, which came against Pakistan. The No. 4 spot will be held by Inzamam Ul Haq and his lazy elegance. He has 11739 runs in 378 ODIs with 10 centuries and a best of 137*. He was a killer against spin and a brutal hitter in death overs against pacers.
MS Dhoni will be the wicketkeeper and captain of the combined India-Pakistan ODI XI. Dhoni had made his name against Pakistan with a 148-run knock and went on to score more than 10,000 runs in over 300 ODIs. He made 10 centuries apart from 321 catches and 123 stumpings behind the stumps.
Dhoni remains the only captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies in ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy and will captain this combined IND-PAK XI as well. Shahid Afridi comes in as the finisher and leg-spin all-rounder next. He scored 8064 runs and took 395 wickets in 398 ODIs with a best of 124 and best bowling of 7/12.
Two of the all-time great all-rounders, Kapil Dev and Imran Khan, follow next to give the combined XI some bowling muscle and big-hitting strength. Kapil Dev led India to the 1983 World Cup win, and Imran won the 1992 World Cup for India and provided excellent leadership to the squad as well.
Legendary Wasim Akram will be the key pacer for this India-Pakistan combined XI, as he was the first bowler in ODIs to cross 500 wickets. He took 502 wickets in 356 ODIs with 6 fifers and a best bowling of 5/15.
Two of the best spinners from each side, Saqlain Mushtaq and Anil Kumble, follow next. Mushtaq, in his short career, took 288 wickets in 169 ODIs, including two ODI hat tricks. He was perhaps the first spinner to be used exclusively in death overs.
Anil Kumble, on the other hand, took 337 wickets, the most by an Indian in ODIs, with a best bowling of 6/12. He was the highest wicket-taker for India in the 1996 World Cup.
