With a mix of long-standing rivalries and taxing international trips, India's 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle is expected to be both difficult and significant. The team sets out to restore its reputation in the game's longest format under Shubman Gill's new leadership.

Following Rohit Sharma's announcement of his retirement from Test cricket, Gill was named captain. Rishabh Pant has also been selected as vice-captain for the forthcoming England series by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Team India is facing a lengthy list of test assignments as the new cycle gets underway. India will participate in six series, three at home and three away, for a total of 18 Test matches.

India Test Series Schedule WTC 2025-27 Cycle:

England Tour (June–August 2025)

India's World Test Championship (WTC) campaign begins with a high-stakes five-Test series in England, with matches scheduled at renowned grounds including as Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford, and The Oval.

The series is a watershed moment for Indian cricket as Shubman Gill takes charge of his maiden Test as captain, ushering in a new era.

Home Series vs West Indies (October 2025)

India will next travel home to meet the West Indies for two Test matches in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. These matches provide an excellent opportunity to gain early points in the WTC standings and build momentum.

Home Series vs South Africa (November–December 2025)

India's next task will be a two-Test series against South Africa in New Delhi and Guwahati. South Africa is known for their perseverance and skill in the longest format, and their visit will put India's strength and consistency to the test.

Sri Lanka Tour (August 2026)

India's lone away assignment in the subcontinent is a two-Test tour of Sri Lanka. Despite the familiarity of the conditions, Sri Lanka's strong home record necessitates tactical precision and agility from the Indian team.

New Zealand Tour (October–November 2026)

A trip to New Zealand follows, where India's batters will face the swing and seam of Kiwi conditions. This two-Test series is critical for India's international credentials in the WTC cycle.

Home Series vs Australia (January–February 2027)

The campaign culminates with the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home, a five-Test series against archrivals Australia. This premier series provides India with an opportunity to avenge their previous cycle's setback and might play a significant part in determining the final WTC standings.
