“They can rank their players wherever they wish” - Indian coach reacts to Mike Hesson’s best spinner tag on Mohammad Nawaz

Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has opened up on the Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson, terming all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz as the best spinner in the world at the moment after his recent heroics in the shortest format of the game.

In the recently concluded T20I tri-series final against Afghanistan, Nawaz scalped a five-wicket haul, conceding 19 runs in his four-over spell, turning the game upside down as Pakistan bagged a comfortable win to lift the title.

"I guess the beauty of our side is we've got five spinners. We've got Mohammad Nawaz, who's the best spin bowler in the world at the moment, and he's been ranked that way over the last six months since he's come back on the side," Hesson had said.

Reacting to Hesson’s comments, Ryan has asserted that everyone has their opinion and they are entitled to rank their players wherever they wish. Notably, India has Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy in their spin line-up for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign.

"I think spinners are going to be very important in this competition. If anything, I don't think it has gripped as much as we anticipated and certainly not like it did earlier in the year when we were here. But spin in general has become a very important part of T20 cricket, and both teams have a lot of spin on offer. And certainly we know how we feel about Varun, Axar and Kuldeep, so everyone's entitled to their opinion, and they can rank their players wherever they wish," Ryan ten Doeschate said in the pre-match press conference.

For the unversed, India is scheduled to take on Pakistan in their second Asia Cup fixture on Sunday, September 14 in Dubai.
