After India’s triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, skipper Rohit Sharma stated that the future of Indian cricket is in very safe hands as the depth and the hunger of the young talent to do well on the international level is clearly seen.
India’s campaign included a lot of young and present-day stars giving their best. Right from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to Shubman Gill, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, everyone gave their 100% in order to win the title.
"I can surely say that Indian cricket for the future is in very, very safe hands, looking at how the players are coming up, how they want to take that responsibility, how much hunger is there,” Rohit Sharma said, as quoted by the ICC.
"The passion, the talent, all of that is there. It is just about now going out there and doing it," he added.
Furthermore, the Indian captain has asserted that the bench strength has utilized the opportunities perfectly well whenever needed across all formats of the game.
"That is the whole point. You want to create your bench strength while you are playing. Whenever we had the opportunity in the last four or five years, we have always tried to give opportunities to all these players. They have grabbed it," he stated.
"When you are discussing which player to pick, who to drop, who is going to miss out on the opening eleven, that tells you there is so much depth in this team," he emphasized.
It is still unclear whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be part of India’s ODI set-up for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled two years from now.
Team India has two important ICC events in the next two years - ICC T20 World Cup on the home soil and co-hosted by Sri Lanka in 2026 and the mega event, ICC ODI World Cup in 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
