India seamer Mohammad Siraj has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on Day 4 of the ongoing Lord’s Test in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.
Moving into the details of the incident, Siraj was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Moreover, one demerit point has been added to Siraj's disciplinary record, as it was his second offence in 24 months, bringing his total demerit points in the same period to two, with the first one coming against Australia in Adelaide in December 2024.
It’s important to note that the fourth day’s incident took place in the sixth over of England’s second innings, when Siraj celebrated excessively in proximity after dismissing the England opener Ben Duckett.
It’s worth noting that Siraj admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd levelled the charge.
It’s important to note that the level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. When a player reaches four or more demerit points within 24 months, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
