Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant has come out in defense of his decision to bowl first against the Mumbai Indians in the afternoon game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 27.
Unfortunately, LSG went on to suffer a 54-run defeat to Mumbai Indians after failing to create an impact with both bat and ball. This was the Mumbai Indians’ five straight defeat after initially struggling in the season.
"It (bowling first) was the right decision for us, we back our batting. We want to give the bowlers the best conditions, but today was not our day. The other team is also playing good cricket, and you have to give them credit instead of questioning ourselves. But we can figure it out because we have a break," said Pant after losing to MI.
Unfortunately, Rishabh Pant is yet to hit form with the bat, scoring only 110 runs from 10 innings this season. He got out to Will Jacks in the match against MI, batting at No. 4. Moreover, Pant defended his decision to come in at the top of the order.
"I am not thinking about it too much. In a season like this, you can start questioning yourself, and I don't want to do that. Every time you take out that individual is not the right thing to do,” he added.
Nevertheless, LSG had a big positive in the match with their star pacer Mayank Yadav coming back into the XI. He scalped the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, returning with the figures of 2/40 in four overs.
"It was good to see him coming back. He is getting into his rhythm. Hopefully he becomes better and better," he concluded.
After losing to the Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants are occupying the fifth rank with five wins and as many losses, picking up 10 points.
