Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) are considered as one of the most inconsistent teams in the Indian Premier League. They have a not-so-good history when it comes to their performance in the various editions of the tournament. Earlier, in the beginning years of the tournament, Delhi made it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
But the time three years later and after two seasons Delhi Capitals reached the knockout stage of the Indian Premier League 2012. But, just after this, the team faced a miserable run of form from IPL 2013 to IPL 2018 for five years and across seasons before they reached knockouts in three successive seasons of the tournament.
Now, the Capitals will be looking ahead to clinch their maiden title in IPL history, which they failed to achieve in the 16 seasons and 15-year-long history of the tournament.
With said that, here we’ll look at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the Delhi Capitals ahead of the mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
Strengths
The Delhi Capitals have a fiery opening pair, including the likes of the veteran Australian batter David Warner, alongside the young Indian batting star, Prithvi Shaw. Following the pair of Warner and Shaw, the middle-order DC also consists of some power hitters in Mitchell Marsh, alongside star wicketkeeper-batter and skipper Rishabh Pant.
With this batting attack, the Capitals could be able to post the big totals and chase down the targets in the crucial matches of the tournament.
Weaknesses
Even after having a perfect-looking batting arsenal, Delhi Capitals have a concern that needs to be addressed and it’s none other than considering the perfect wicketkeeping option. In the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, the management will have to fill this void; in that case, they might think of some other option after releasing Sarfaraz Khan, Philip Salt or Manish Pandey in the squad.
Opportunities
Having some in-form international stars in the squad like Mitchell Marsh and David Warner. Apart from that, the potential return of their regular skipper Rishabh Pant will also be a morale boost for the side. Having senior pacers like Ishant Sharma and Lungi Ngidi will also be a big positive for the Capitals.
Threats
The middle-order conundrum is still a big question DC management has to answer as soon as possible to strengthen their chances for the knockouts in the Indian Premier League. Apart from David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Mitchell Marsh, there is still a lack of any established batter in the middle-order as it is still not clear for how many matches and when Rishabh Pant will make his comeback in the side.
