IPL 2025: 3 Flop signings of Mumbai Indians (MI)

After a slow start to the IPL 2025 campaign, the Mumbai Indians (MI) peaked at the right moment and are now looking like one of the favorites to secure a place in the playoffs. Currently, they are in fourth position with 14 points from 12 games, with a net run rate of +1.156.

Most of their star players have performed exceptionally well as the tournament has progressed, and that is why the team is now in this position. However, there are some players who were brought in this season but have failed to live up to their expectations or potential.

Here are the three flop signings of MI in IPL 2025:

Deepak Chahar

This Indian pacer is not new to the IPL, as he has been playing in this competition for several years. Deepak Chahar has looked good, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, in some games.

However, there have been matches or moments where Chahar looked completely out of color and was smacked with ease by the opposition batters. Hence, despite taking 10 wickets in 12 games, he has conceded runs at an economy rate of 9.31.

In the last game against Gujarat Titans (GT), Chahar was given the responsibility to defend 15 runs in the final over, with Gerald Coetzee and Rahul Tewatia at the crease. Chahar failed to do so, as Tewatia hit a four, Coetzee hit a six, and he also bowled a no-ball that resulted in a free hit for the visitors.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

This Afghan spinner came as a replacement for Allah Ghazanfar and has played only one game so far this season. Mujeeb played against GT in Ahmedabad and conceded 28 runs in two overs, at an economy rate of 14.00, while bagging only one wicket.

That performance was enough for the MI management to decide that he should not be considered in the playing XI anymore. With all his international and previous IPL experience, MI fans expected a better show from Mujeeb.

Robin Minz

MI handed a debut to Robin Minz, an exciting wicketkeeper-batter and the first tribal player to play in IPL history. MI gave him two opportunities to showcase his talent, but he has failed. He has managed only six runs at a strike rate of 40.00, leaving fans disappointed.
