The Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) has started with a bang, with SRH causing mayhem in their first match itself. Every franchise has participated in at least one game. Four of the ten franchises are awaiting their maiden victory, and six of them have points against their names on the IPL 2025 points table.

1. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan was not retained by his long-term franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI). He had been with MI since the 2017 IPL and had done extremely well for them. He played 89 games and scored 2325 runs for them with a best of 99 and 15 fifties. However, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 auction to bolster their already deadly batting lineup.

Ishan Kishan showed what he was capable of as he smashed his maiden IPL century on SRH debut against RR. He hammered 11 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 225.23. This was also an apt reply to the BCCI, which removed him from the central contracts list for not playing domestic cricket last year as he took a mental health break.

2. Shreyas Iyer

Another player whose BCCI central contract was revoked was Shreyas Iyer. However, Shreyas Iyer returned to the Indian fold against England earlier this year and then played a huge role in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win.

Iyer parted ways with KKR after a disagreement about captaincy, and then PBKS shelled out INR 26.75 crores for him in the IPL 2025 auction. Shreyas Iyer was soon named captain of the franchise, and he led from the front in their IPL opener against GT. He scored 97* with 9 sixes and 5 fours and showed that he was in the purplest of forms with the best.

3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli struggled in red-ball cricket in 2024 and retired from T20Is after winning the ICC T20 World Cup with the Indian team. He scored just one century in Tests against Australia, and questions were raised on his form in white-ball cricket. However, he answered back in roaring fashion with 100* and 84 against Pakistan and Australia, respectively, in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win.  

He came into the IPL 2025 with a huge confidence that showed in RCB’s first match against KKR. Set to chase 175 runs, Kohli steadied the ship and anchored with 59* from 36 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes as RCB won the game. Kohli looked in great touch, and everyone is expecting a repeat of IPL 2016 or 2024 from him this time.
