Mumbai Indians (MI) had a brilliant run after a slow start in IPL 2025. They secured a spot in the playoffs by finishing fourth in the league stage. In the Eliminator, they defeated Gujarat Titans and advanced to Qualifier 2.
However, against Punjab Kings (PBKS), they failed to win and were knocked out, leaving their fans heartbroken. Despite the team’s campaign, a few players didn’t manage to play a single match throughout the season.
Here are the three MI players who didn't get a chance to play in IPL 2025:
Bevon Jacobs
This young, hard-hitting batter from New Zealand didn’t get a single match in the recent IPL season for MI. The franchise bought him for INR 30 Lakh. Jacobs made his debut for Canterbury in the Super Smash 2023–24 and scored a 20-ball 42 on debut.
In the Queensland T20 Max 2023–24 competition, he smashed a century off just 40 balls for South Brisbane against Toombul. Even before joining MI, he had registered a 157-run knock against Central Districts for Auckland in the Plunket Shield 2024–25. He is also associated with the MI franchise in the ILT20, playing for MI Emirates in the 2024/25 season.
Arjun Tendulkar
Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the great Sachin Tendulkar, has been part of MI since 2023. In five matches so far, he has picked up three wickets. Ahead of the 2025 season, MI bought him again for INR 30 Lakh. Initially, he went unsold in the first round but was later picked up by MI. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a single match for the franchise this season.
Charith Asalanka
MI added Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka to their squad ahead of the playoffs as a replacement for South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch. Bosch had to leave the tournament before the playoffs to join South Africa’s squad for the upcoming World Test Championship 2025 (WTC 2025) Final in England.
However, in the two playoff games, MI did not hand Asalanka a debut cap, and he ended the tournament without playing a match. His all-round abilities have been impactful in his T20 career so far. In 137 T20s, he has scored 2,767 runs and taken 27 wickets in 42 innings.
