IPL 2025: 3 Players to watch out for in KKR vs GT Match 39

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host the high-flying Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 21 April in Match 39 of IPL 2025. It is a crucial game for both sides, but especially for KKR, who are currently sixth on the points table. 

With just six points from seven matches and a net run rate of +0.547, the defending champions need to get back to winning ways quickly if they want to stay in the playoff hunt. On the other hand, GT are looking unstoppable. They are on top of the table with 10 points from seven games and a healthy net run rate of +0.984. 

Their dominant performance against Delhi Capitals in their last game was another reminder of the depth and balance in their squad. Historically, these two teams have met three times in the IPL, with GT winning two of those encounters. KKR managed to win just one. With both sides boasting match-winners in their line-ups, fans can expect an enthrilling contest.   

3 Players to Watch Out for in the KKR vs GT Match 39

1. Jos Buttler (GT)

The experienced England batter has been in red-hot form for GT this season. He’s currently third in the Orange Cap race, having scored 315 runs in seven innings. His average of 63.00 and strike rate of 164.06 show how dangerous he’s been at the top. 

He has already hit three half-centuries this season and came close to scoring a hundred in the last game, when he remained unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC). That knock helped GT chase down 204 and earned him the Player of the Match award. In the form he is in, Buttler will be one to watch in Kolkata.  

2. Varun Chakaravarthy (KKR)

KKR’s spin wizard could play a key role at their home ground. With Eden Gardens pitches under the spotlight this season, Varun might enjoy bowling here if it offers some help to spinners. So far, he has taken 10 wickets in seven games, with an impressive economy rate of 6.22. 

Though he has done well, KKR will hope he can step up even more, especially against a strong GT batting line-up. Along with Sunil Narine, Varun’s overs in the middle phase could help KKR put pressure on GT and turn the game in their favour. 

3. Prasidh Krishna (GT)

Gujarat’s pace spearhead is having a dream season. After returning from injury, Prasidh has been consistently picking wickets across phases. In seven games, he has already bagged 14 wickets at an economy of 7.44, making him the current holder of the Purple Cap. 

Only in the first game of the season, he went wicketless. In GT’s last match, he took 4 for 41 against DC and played a major role in limiting their total. With his ability to strike in the powerplay and at the death, he has become captain Shubman Gill’s go-to bowler. The KKR batters will have to be careful while facing him.
