Chennai Super Kings, the joint-most successful team of the Indian Premier League in terms of number of trophies won, has an unparalleled history. They have clearly been the most consistent team in the league over the years, playing over 10 finals in the history of 17 years so far.
They had a rare off-season in the previous edition of the tournament where they failed to qualify for the playoffs by a thin margin in net run-rate. However, CSK is one of the best teams in the tournament and doesn’t repeat their mistakes. They learnt their lesson and made some tactical choices during the auctions as a result of which they have built a strong team.
CSK has won five titles because they are a team that knows what it wants. CSK is a team with a diverse roster that includes several Indian players. After letting go of many players, they focused on improving their bowling in particular. MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, Rituraj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana were the five players whom CSK kept before the auction.
Let’s examine three reasons why CSK can win another title.
1. Plethora of all-rounders
Chennai Super Kings focused majorly on collecting as many all-rounders as they could during the mega auctions for IPL 2025. All-rounders provide flexibility to the team, increasing the bowling options while making the batting line-up deep, which in turn makes the team stronger and harder to beat.
Playing at the Chepauk, the spin-bowling all-rounders are expected to dominate the proceedings. The likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rachin Ravindra, Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Gopal would assist the team.
They even got some great pace-bowling all-rounders with the likes of Jamie Overton, Sam Curran, Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar and Anshul Kambhoj. The presence of so many and such quality all-round options will surely put CSK in an extremely strong and dominating position over their rivals.
2. Variety in the bowling attack
CSK have a complete bowling attack and can take on any team at any venue. They have some good pacers in Nathan Ellis, Matheesha Pathirana, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Choudhary and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. These are all pacers of different styles, adding flair to the bowling attack.
When it comes to the spin department, they have an even better inventory. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the two legends of the format and the tournament, finding their places among the highest wicket-takers of the league. The new additions to the team Shreyas Gopal and Noor Ahmad will further bolster the already existing strong spin attack.
The variety in bowling options, both in spin and pace, will surely give them an edge while making their bowling attack one of the most dangerous this season. Most of these bowlers can swing their bat well too, which further just aids the team when required.
3. Plenty of experience
Chennai Super Kings has always been known for keeping players who are older on the scale, which reduces the fitness parameter but then increases the experience parameter significantly. This year is no different for them.
Veteran players like MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are part of CSK and offer the team significant leadership and expertise. In pivotal games, Ashwin and Jadeja's versatility and MS Dhoni's tactical skill may make a big difference.
