IPL 2025: 3 Threats for Delhi Capitals (DC)

Delhi Capitals, who have failed to qualify for the playoffs for three consecutive years, will dream of winning their first IPL title in the 18th season of the tournament in 2025. With a well-balanced squad that boasts a potent pace attack, skilled batsmen, and a robust spin department, Delhi Capitals' performance will depend on how effectively they utilize their resources.

Here are three key threats that the Delhi Capitals may face this season:

1. Lack of spin department

One of the key threats to Delhi Capitals' success is their over-reliance on their spin bowling department, which is largely dependent on two key spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Although both players had an impressive performance in the World Cup, the team's fortunes may be jeopardized if either of them gets injured.

In conditions where spin bowling is crucial to winning, Delhi Capitals may struggle if their primary spinners are unavailable. The team's backup options, Ajay Mandal and Vipraj Nigam, are inexperienced players who may struggle in tough situations, which could leave Delhi Capitals vulnerable if their main spinners fail to perform.

2. Middle-order concern

Delhi Capitals' middle-order concerns may be alleviated with the inclusion of KL Rahul, who is expected to bolster the team. However, Rahul's suitability for the middle-order role is uncertain, given his struggles in T20 cricket over the years. With the opening spots seemingly fixed, courtesy of Faf du Plessis and Fraser McGurk, finding a place for Rahul in the top order will be a challenging task.

If Rahul bats at number three, a slow innings from him could prove detrimental to the team, making it essential to find an optimal spot for him in the lineup. Delhi Capitals' middle order comprises relatively inexperienced players, who may struggle in high-pressure situations, making it crucial for the team to find a stable and effective batting order.

3. Injury to key players

Despite being a strong contender in IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals' fortunes may be marred by injuries to key players, which could pose a significant threat to their campaign. The team's pace attack, comprising Starc, Natarajan, and Chameera, is a major strength, but also a concern due to the injury-prone nature of some of these players.

T Natarajan, in particular, has been susceptible to injuries, and if he or any other key pacer gets injured, it could put immense pressure on the team. Delhi Capitals' reliance on their pace attack makes it crucial for these players to remain fit throughout the season.
