IPL 2025: 3 Threats for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished as runners-up last season, falling short against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. This time, they will be determined to go one step further, beginning their campaign at home against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 23.

On paper, SRH looks strong in all departments and appears to be a strong contender for another final appearance. However, there are still a few tricky areas that need attention throughout the tournament to ensure better results.

Here are the 3 Threats for SRH in the IPL 2025

Pat Cummins coming back from an injury

SRH skipper Pat Cummins recently missed the Champions Trophy for Australia due to an ankle injury. However, he has now joined the squad and appears to be fully fit and available for IPL 2025. Yet, returning from an injury and immediately regaining top form is never easy for any player. How quickly Cummins can find his rhythm and deliver match-winning performances with both bat and ball will play a crucial role in determining SRH’s fortunes in the tournament.

Too much reliance on explosive opening duo

Last season, a major part of SRH’s success came from the explosive opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Their blistering starts helped the team post record-breaking mammoth totals, whether setting a target or chasing down scores quickly. However, this season, an over-reliance on them could be risky, making it crucial for the middle-order batters to step up. With players like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen in the lineup, they must not only showcase their power-hitting abilities but also bring consistency to support the team’s needs.

Consistency from bowlers

SRH may have finished as runners-up last season, but their bowling unit was not as effective. Their batters consistently posted massive totals, which often masked the shortcomings of their bowlers, as opponents struggled to chase down targets despite scoring heavily. This season, with a bowling attack featuring Mohammed Shami, Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, Adam Zampa, and Pat Cummins, SRH fans will hope for a more lethal performance. Taking wickets at every stage, especially in the powerplay and middle overs, will be crucial for their success. Otherwise, a lack of consistency from the bowlers could prove costly in their campaign.
