The competition for playoff positions has intensified as the IPL 2025 season draws to a close. Some clubs have shown dominance and stability, while others have had trouble establishing themselves. Resilience, strategy, and form are necessary in the playoff path, and not all clubs have been able to achieve these expectations.
Inconsistent play, injuries, and tactical errors have plagued the path for a few organizations. Even with their best efforts, these clubs have a difficult time finishing in the top four, which makes their hopes of making the playoffs seem more and more distant.
Therefore, here are the four franchises that might be eliminated from the race for the playoffs sooner or later.
Here are the 4 teams that might not reach the IPL 2025 playoffs:
1. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
This IPL 2025 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders, the reigning champions, are in a vulnerable situation. Their uneven performances have made it difficult for them to remain in contention, as they have only six points from eight games. The lack of unity in their team and the absence of important players have been major obstacles.
KKR only has 6 points from 8 games in the tournament. And they need to win at least five of their final six games to save their campaign. Their prospects of qualifying for the playoffs, however, seem modest given their difficult schedule and poor Net Run Rate (NRR).
2. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Throughout the season, the Rajasthan Royals have struggled to stay consistent. They have only four points from eight games, demonstrating a clear incapacity to take advantage of pivotal opportunities. They have battled to control runs with their bowling assault, and key players have fared poorly. Injury to mercurial captain Sanju Samson had worsened their chances as well.
RR needs to win all of their remaining games and greatly raise their NRR in order to be in the running. But their chances of making the playoffs are rapidly dwindling given their recent performance and challenging future schedule. They will face RCB, GT, and MI in three of their next four games in IPL 2025.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Sunrisers Hyderabad, last year’s finalists, have struggled with poor decision-making and tactical mistakes. Their failure to perform well away from home and take advantage of home advantage has been a persistent problem, as they have only four points from eight games.
Furthermore, their bowlers have not performed well under pressure. SRH batters who have a reputation to go big at the start need to come good on their promises and get going. SRH needs to improve these areas and play consistently if they want to maintain their postseason ambitions. However, a playoff berth is becoming less realistic given their present standing in the standings.
4. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have never finished at the bottom of the IPL points table ever. But it seems like in IPL 2025, that record will be broken, as CSK has only 4 points from 8 games thus far, and the NRR is -1.392. They have suffered significant defeats due to their inconsistent batting and lack of focus during critical moments. To increase their NRR, the club must win games with significant margins.
CSK has to win every game they have left and hope that other clubs will play well to pull off a stunning turnaround. Apart from Noor Ahmad, none of their bowlers have done well, and none of the batters have come to the party despite hopes from many. CSK faltered in the mega auction itself, picking veterans over young blood, and out-of-form players might ensure they crash out of the playoffs race soon.
