IPL 2025: 5 Entertaining matches to watch out for

The much-awaited 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to get underway on March 22 with the blockbuster clash between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). A total of 74 matches will be played in the T20 extravaganza with the final scheduled to take place on May 25 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Ever since the inception of IPL in 2008, rivalry between certain teams has brewed up and the fans look forward to enjoying those matches as well. At the same time, with players shuffled to other teams during the mega auction this season, a lot has changed. On that note, here we bring you five entertaining matches to watch out for in the upcoming season:

1. KKR vs RCB

The opening match of IPL 2025 will be no less than a thriller for sure. KKR and RCB are set to lock horns on March 22 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata which will be jam packed for the tournament opener. Even though KKR have dominated RCB historically, the new edition always brings new hopes always and the two teams, with the kind of superstar players they possess, it is certainly going to be an entertaining encounter. Expect the likes of Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Tim David, Rajat Patidar, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and other players to light up the stage and get the IPL 2025 off to a rollicking start.

2. CSK vs MI

It would be a crime to not include the El-Classico of IPL on this list. CSK and MI share an intense rivalry and both teams have won the cash-rich league five times so far. MI will miss their captain Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah in the El Classico but that doesn’t take any sheen away from the encounter.

On the other hand, CSK have nicely rebuilt their squad in the mega auction and are looking extremely strong this season. The two teams will face twice this season and the fans will definitely be entertained thoroughly both times in IPL 2025.

3. SRH vs RCB

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are scheduled to face only once in IPL 2025 and that too at the fag end of the league stage on May 13 in Bengaluru. Both teams are filled with exciting superstars and the kind of players they possess, it is certainly going to be a massive and run-filled encounter.

Moreover, with the match set to be played late in the league stage, a place in the playoffs could be up for grabs. In that case, the entertainment quotient in the clash between them shoots up manifold. 

4. CSK vs RCB

With Virat Kohli’s presence in the RCB side, the team has an excellent rivalry with other top teams. It will be MS Dhoni vs Kohli in this clash and who would want to miss it? The two teams will face each other twice this season on March 28 and May 3 and it goes without saying that the fans will be entertained to the fullest.

CSK have generally dominated RCB but one can only count the latter team out at their own peril. RCB have built a strong squad this time around and certainly, this face-off will keep the fans of both teams on the tenterhooks.

5. DC vs LSG

Captains of Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have changed this season. While Rishabh Pant is with LSG, KL Rahul will turn up for DC. Both players will be keen on proving their mettle against their former side and in turn, the fans will be entertained to the fullest for sure. DC and LSG are scheduled to lock horns against each other on March 24 ( Monday) in Vizag and on April 22 in Lucknow this season.
