IPL 2025: 5 GT players who didn't do well, but can be retained for IPL 2026

T20 form fluctuates—but raw skill doesn’t fade overnight. With defined roles, targeted skill-building, and year-round planning, not knee-jerk substitutions—GT can turn 2025's underachievement into playoff priming in 2026. In the high-pressure auction drama, retention isn't about glories past; it's about victories to come.

IPL 2025 was a bag of mixed delights for the Gujarat Titans. Even with disappointing performances, the following five players still have the talent and team balance that constitute a solid argument for retaining them in IPL 2026. Take a look at who they are and why Gujarat Titans should consider giving them another opportunity.

1. Gerald Coetzee

Coetzee had a limited chance but registered little impact, claiming only 2 wickets from 4 matches, and was shaky at the start of his games, even dropping a critical catch in the Eliminator.

An unrefined but promising raw-paced and bouncing bowler, Coetzee's abilities are rough around the edges but high on the ceiling. At 24, with space to develop his death-bowling art and gain confidence, he may become a wicket-taking asset. GT's pace arsenal would be better served by developing such potential over beginning anew. His raw pace can be a deadly weapon for them and produce fear in the opponents.

2. Kagiso Rabada

Rabada's season was truncated, with four games only returning two wickets at a pricey 11.57 economy, partially because of a mid-season suspension. He never really got into the groove before being struck down.

A season disrupted does not do Rabada justice. Fit and concentrated, he is still an opening strike bowler of the frontline class at all stages of the game. A complete, undisturbed 2026 season might restore him to his role as a game-changer, particularly at GT's strengths in the death overs. He can also be a handy batter lower down the order and contribute significantly.

3. Arshad Khan

Arshad got to play 9 games for the team this season, taking 6 wickets at a decent 10.33 economy rate. He was inconsistent, but not consistently punished as well. He delivered some fiery spells in these games, but could not be consistent with them.

At a bottom-price bargain, Arshad provides left-arm seam variation—something scarce in domestic environments. With improved death bowling drills and more clearly defined game situations, he might prove to be a useful third seamer, adding depth and variety to the frontline pace options. He is also helpful with the bat in the lower order.

4. Anuj Rawat

Shifting to being a reserve wicketkeeper, Rawat's T20 stats are strong. In 71 games, he has a 25.69 average with a best of 88*. He did not play a key role for GT as he did not get to feature in any game, but his form in domestic cricket would not lie.

Rawat's glove-work and top-order exposure add crucial solidity if Buttler sorts himself out. His ability to anchor T20 innings in domestic cricket indicates that, given a specific role and chance, he can provide important middle-order strength.

5. Glenn Phillips

Phillips also did not get to represent his team in even a single match in the Indian Premier League 2025 for the Gujarat Titans. But he has been doing an excellent job for his national side and the other teams he has represented.

Phillips offers explosive start-to-finisher talent, along with superb fielding athleticism. He excels when his part is delineated—whether to break down the powerplay or surge late. With established batting slots and fewer squad changes, Phillips might provide the dynamic showings GT requires in 2026.
