The Indian Premier League aka IPL, is round the corner, and the excitement has started to fill the streets. Fans are awaiting their favourite teams and players to collide and give them some high voltage drama, like every year.

However, discussions have also emerged about the players who might retire after this season. Based on age, form, and fitness levels, here are five players who are likely to retire from IPL after the 2025 season.

1. Faf du Pless

One of the most well-known individuals to be released during the IPL 2025 mega-auction was South African cricketer Faf du Plessis. He was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for 2 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, and he will play for the team in the forthcoming season. When the team selected him prior to the 2022 season, he was named the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In the 2022 and 2024 seasons, the team made it to the playoffs under Faf's direction. In 2024, he amassed 438 runs for the Bangalore based team. Prior to joining RCB, Faf du Plessis played for the Chennai Super Kings, which won the 2018 and 2021 IPL titles.

2. Piyush Chawla

Prior to his eventual release by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, veteran Indian spinner Piyush Chawla played for the team. He has played for four different IPL teams during his career. In the 2014 season, he scored the game-winning runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals. He has been among the most prosperous bowlers in the IPL history. He may choose to retire after this season, though, as no clubs bid for him in the IPL 2025 auction.

3. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, an all-around batter for England, is one of the players who is most likely to retire following the 2025 Indian Premier League. In the forthcoming IPL season, he will be a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders. The 37-year-old has played for the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL thus far. In 2021 and 2023, he and the Chennai Super Kings won the championship. The Chennai Super Kings released Moeen Ali at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

4. Ishant Sharma

Another player who might be playing in his final season in the Indian Premier League in 2025 is Indian bowler Ishant Sharma. In the IPL 2025, he is scheduled to play for the Gujarat Titans. Ishant was released by the Delhi Capital prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was a member of the Delhi Capital from 2019 till 2024. Ishant has played for the Deccan Charges, Rising Pune Supergiants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kokata Knight Riders, and Kings XI Punjab throughout his career. In 110 games, he has claimed 92 wickets.

5. MS Dhoni

The first name that unquestionably comes to the mind when talking about retiring, is the legendary former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who has represented the team since its founding, Dhoni. He has already retired from international cricket, and his IPL appearances have been restricted to brief batting appearances while retaining his adept wicket keeping abilities. Given his advanced age (he is already approaching 44) and ailments, it is possible that the 2025 Indian Premier League will be his last game. With five IPL wins under his belt, Dhoni's legacy is incredible, and retiring at his home stadium in Chennai would be the ideal way to honor the icon.
