Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane injured his fingers on the field during his attempt to stop the ball against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 48th match of the IPL 2025 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, April 29.
While Delhi Capitals were batting in the second innings, a shot from Faf du Plessis hit Rahane on the field. While that particular ball turned out to be a no-ball, Rahane was seen walking off the field in pain.
While Rahane didn't turn up to the field again, Narine was asked to lead the side in his absence. Subsequently, Narine scalped three important wickets to turn the game towards the Knight Riders.
Speaking about his injury, Rahane stated that he would be okay with taking part in the next game. He also hailed Sunil Narine for the way he turned the game upside down with his exceptional bowling skills.
"I will be okay, I think. I will be fine. I think after 13 overs Sunil bowled those two overs and picked up two wickets. They lost quick wickets and that was the game for us. 204 on that wicket was good but we were 15 runs short on that wicket. We were going well as a batting unit. As a fielding unit you were always 1 or 2 wickets away when the opposition was chasing 205. Sunil bowled well and Russell's one over in between and Anukul Roy as well," Rahane said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Shifting our focus to the match, KKR posted a dominating total of 204/9 in 20 overs. In the chase, Faf du Plessis was the star batter for the Capitals with 62 runs in 45 balls while they could score only 190/9 in 20 overs, losing the game by 14 runs. Narine was awarded the player of the match for his all-round heroics.
