The Delhi Capitals, one of the most underappreciated and unfortunate teams in IPL history, are still vying for their first-ever championship. On March 24, they will play the Lucknow Super Giants, captained by Rishabh Pant, in Visakhapatnam to begin their IPL 2025 season.
With 14 points from 14 games, the Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the points standings last season after displaying potential in spurts but faltering at key times.
The IPL retains its two-group format, introduced in 2022 when the league expanded to 10 teams. The franchises are divided into two groups.
The IPL 2025 will begin on March 22 and will see Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Each team will play 14 games during the 70-match IPL 2025 league phase. The dates of the playoffs are set for May 20–25.
On May 20 and 21, Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will take place at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Qualifier 2 will be held on May 23, and the final on May 25, in Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Delhi Capitals decided to let go of their captain and star player, Rishabh Pant. They decided to retain Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.
In the IPL 2025 mega-auction, their costliest buy was KL Rahul, INR 14 crores. Australia pacer Mitchell Starc joined the squad for Rs 11.75 crore. Other big names, like Faf du Plessis, Harry Brook, T. Natarajan, and Mohit Sharma, were also bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
