IPL 2025: All you need to know about Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The Champions of IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), will play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22, on the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The IPL 2025 will retain its two-group structure. There are two categories for the franchises.

Group A: Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings. Group B: Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants.

In the 70-match IPL 2025 league phase, each team will play 14 games. The playoffs are scheduled for May 20–25.

 Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be held at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 20 and 21. The second qualifier is scheduled for May 23.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Full squad

One of the biggest moves KKR made before the IPL 2025 mega auction was letting go of their IPL 2024 winning captain, Shreyas Iyer. Due to uncompressing conditions from both sides, Iyer and KKR decided to part ways. KKR also parted ways with Mitchell Starc, the player of the final in the 2024 edition, due to his high price.

Instead, Kolkata Knight Riders retained Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Harshit Rana ahead of the auction.

In the mega auction, KKR went for big names like Ajinkya Rahane, Quinton De Kock, Anrich Nortje, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and bought back Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Vaibhav Arora, Rovman Powell, and Umran Malik. KKR will be captained by Ajinkya Rahane in the IPL 2025 with Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain.
