The IPL 2025 is waiting in the backdrop, with the Champions Trophy 2025 currently in the limelight. The 18th season of the Indian cash-rich league will commence 13 days after the Champions Trophy on March 22.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for IPL 2025 earlier in the month. In the tournament opener on March 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The tournament will feature 74 matches being played across 65 days at 13 venues. Apart from the traditional 10 venues of the hosts, matches will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium and Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
The HPCA Stadium will serve as the second home base for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, just like it did in IPL 2024. The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh will be the first home venue for them.
PBKS will play four matches at the Mullanpur-based stadium, while the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala will host their other three home games.
The 2014 runners-up will take on Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the picturesque venue in Dharamsala.
PBKS' record at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala
Punjab Kings (earlier known as Kings XI Punjab) have played a total number of 13 IPL matches at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. They don't boast a strong record at their second home as they have only five wins and eight losses at the venue.
Surprisingly, they have suffered losses at the venue in their last four outings, with their last win in Dharamsala coming way back in 2013. The Punjab franchise hosted IPL matches at the venue in 2010 (two matches), 2011 (three matches), 2012 (two matches), 2013 (two matches), 2023 (two matches) and 2024 (two matches).
In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings are placed in Group 1. They will play twice against the other four teams from their group - Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings - and twice against the opposite team from the other group - Lucknow Super Giants.
PBKS will face four other teams - Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians - from Group 2 only once.
