Former Indian spinner and commentator Harbhajan Singh has landed in a fresh controversy after referring the Rajasthan Royals pacer to “Kaali Taxi” (Black Taxi) just when the speedster came out to bowl in the IPL 2025 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday, March 23.
These comments by the former Indian cricketer didn’t go down well with a lot of fans on social media as they attacked Harbhajan Singh, who hasn’t been new to controversies during playing and non-playing days.
"London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (Like the meter of London's black taxis, Archer's meter has also been on the higher side)," Harbhajan was heard saying during his commentary stint in the SRH vs RR match.
Though a lot of fans took to X (Formerly Twitter) to lash out at the former Indian off-spinner to issue an apology, the Turbantor hasn’t responded on the issue yet. Interestingly, Jofra Archer went on to leak 76 runs in his four-over spell without picking up a wicket. This was the most expensive spell in IPL history.
SRH vs RR - As it happened
Moving into the details of the match, Sunrisers lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Ishan Kishan was the star of the show, smacking 106 runs in 47 balls without getting out. Moreover, Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) and Heinrich Klaasen (34) were also exceptional in the first innings. Ultimately, SRH posted 286/6 in 20 overs.
In the chase, RR went on to score 242/6 in 20 overs, losing the game by 44 runs. Sanju Samson (66), Dhruv Jurel (70), Shimron Hetmyer (42) and Shubham Dubey (34) were decent enough, but couldn't take their team home.
