IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has stated that the campaign is awaiting directives from the government to decide if the competition should go ahead or not amid the India and Pakistan tensions in both countries. He said, “It is on as of now”.
Notably, on Thursday night, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) game at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala was cancelled after 10.1 overs due to "a significant technical failure".
"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously, the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," Dhumal told PTI after the game got called off.
Speaking about the future of the tournament and Friday’s fixture between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Dhumal said, "Yes, it is on as of now, but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind."
After the game got called off in Dharmsala, players and support staff from both teams were confirmed by the BCCI official to be transported to Delhi via a special train from Pathankot, located around 85 Km from Dharamsala.
Including the game that got cancelled on Thursday, IPL 2025 has had 58 games so far. Only 12 more games are left in the group stage, with playoffs scheduled to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
