Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi was found hogging the spotlight after he was fined yet again for his notebook celebration gesture during the Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants Match 16 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 4.
Interestingly, a few days earlier, he was fined 25% of his match fees for his celebration against Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya. Now, he was fined 50% of his match fees for his notebook celebration gesture after dismissing Naman Dhir.
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday. This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025,” a statement from the IPL committee read.
Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar slammed the LSG spinner for his gestures in the past two games. Interestingly, these antics didn’t go down well with the former Indian captain.
“I can understand the celebration if the wicket comes after the batsman hit a boundary or a six in the previous ball. As a bowler, you’ve got six deliveries. So if you get five dot balls and get a wicket of the sixth, then you do something like that, it’s not understandable,” Gavaskar said while on commentary on Star Sports.
“But all these gestures mean that you don’t expect to get a wicket. And now that you’ve got a wicket, you’re trying to, you know, show off. We know what Kohli did after that. He hit him for a boundary after boundary after boundary,” he concluded.
